Goshen, Connecticut – Indie developer Paul Dunahoo today is pleased to introduce Basket 1.0 – A Grocery List free for iOS, their productivity app that provides an easy-to-use grocery list featuring iCloud sync. Simple and convenient, the app does not rely upon a voluminous database of grocery items. Instead, shoppers enter individual items manually or by voice using Siri. Reaching the market, there is no need to check with other members of the household regarding last minute additions – the list is automatically synced between all the family’s iDevices via iCloud.

Clearly, the most powerful feature of Basket is its support for automatic iCloud sync. In a family of four, where Mom & Dad, Brother & Sister, each carry an iPhone and the family all share the iPad at home, Basket provides an always-updated shopping list. The first family member who stops at the grocery store simply opens the app and every individual’s contribution appears on the list. The days of trying to reach Mom by phone to check on which groceries are needed are over. Basket is a master shopping list that resides in the cloud, where it is updated and shared by the entire family.

Basket’s interface is simplicity itself – a white, lined pad, where items are listed one beneath another. For the style-conscious shopper, the app offers six modern, sans-serif fonts (Helvetica, HelveticaNeue, Optima, Marino, Papyrus, and Verdana) in five different sizes. Users can touch the “+” button to add an item, or swipe down to launch the cursor and keypad. Touch the green check mark beside the item to delete it, or swipe through the item to cross it off. Basket puts the items still needed at the top of the list, and all found items at the bottom. Coordinating the family grocery list has never been so easy, or such a pleasure.

Is it faster and easier to scroll through the Apple Picker from Groceries to Produce and then find Tomatoes, or simply type in “Tomatoes?” The answer will vary from user to user. Is it faster and easier to type in “Tomatoes” or simply speak, “Six, large, ripe tomatoes?” Siri-compatible Basket answers this question definitively. Speaking is the most natural way to enter items on a list, and the dictate function of Siri has grown quite accurate, particularly in English. So, instead of trying to locate “Cookies – chocolate chip” in a database, or type in the 22 characters necessary, the shopper can just say, “Nabisco Chocolate Chip Cookies,” and every word is spelled correctly.

Siri Dictate (iPhone 4S or New iPad) requires an Internet connection, and all speech-to-text requests are processed and saved by Apple. As a result, most brand names are now recognized and spelled correctly. Though strictly outside its purview, this enables Basket to record almost any item on to its shopping list, whether visiting the hardware store, drugstore, clothing store, or mall.
