Common Confusions of iOS 6

A few people have already come to me with some troubles in their iOS 6 updating, so let’s address some of these issues and how to fix them. Most of these are simply but may not be completely evident to the average user.

Facebook Contacts & Calendar:

You update and add your Facebook credentials so that you can post from your message center, but all of a sudden you notice that your contacts has an insane number of names in there, and your calendar now shows all of your Facebook events and birthdays. How do you take care of this clutter without going through and deleting each entry one by one? Simple. Navigate to your settings application and scroll down to the Facebook section. Next turn off the options for contacts, and calendar, boom, they’re all gone. #fixed

Privacy of your contacts:

There seems to be more applications than ever requesting use of your contacts in the new iOS 6, why is this? Are apps suddenly trying to get your numbers from you? Well, no. Most of these applications have already done this and been doing this for a while now. iOS 6 is simply making it more difficult for them to be able to access these features in your device and giving you the option to allow or disallow them. If you navigate to your settings application and then to the Privacy section you can customize which applications get which permissions that they are requesting and switch these On and Off at any given time.

Folders:

As common as folders are in your device, some people still have no idea that you can create them. Folders can be used for organizing apps into categories so that your home screen isn’t cluttered, or just to have quicker access to the applications that you use most often. To create a folder tap and hold any app on your screen until they start shaking, then drag the application you want onto another application and you will see a folder create, give it a name and continue adding applications into it until it gets full.
