myIncome 1.0 for Mac OS X 10.7 – Lightweight Income Tracking Application

 02 Nov 2011   Posted by Jerad Hill  0 Comment

New York, New York – Independent developer Michael S. Swan today is pleased to introduce myIncome 1.0 for Mac OS X 10.7, his new, lightweight, income tracking application. Designed especially for those who do not work the same number of hours every week and/or work for a variety of employers, the app tracks whether or not users have been paid correctly for the hours they have worked. Featuring an integrated budgeting function, income can be viewed by: type, employer, event/job, totals per employer, overdue payments, and monthly estimated gross and net.

Feature Highlights:
* Track income by individual income events
* Quickly find any overdue payments
* View income by income type
* View total income per income type
* View income by employer
* View income totals per employer
* Create a monthly budget
* View an overview of income by month for both gross income and estimated net income
* Users can easily see the difference between their monthly budget and each month’s estimated gross income
* Export data to a CSV format file
* Print monthly or annual summaries

Launching myIncome displays just one window from which all views and functions can be selected. In the left column, the user can choose from five different views: Income, Income Types, Employers, Budget, and Overview. Excepting the last, all views include a large display section in the center that includes column headings, while the appropriate input fields are located in the right column.

The Income view allows users to input income events and enter information such as the rate, number of hours, overtime, employer, etc. There is a check box to mark off each income event when payment is received. If an item still has an unchecked box after 30 days (or the number of days selected by the user), the app will automatically provide an alert that an invoice is overdue.

The Income Types view is primarily for determining estimated net income, but can also be useful for other purposes. By default, myIncome creates three income types: W-2 for income earned while on an employer’s payroll (where taxes are deducted), W-9 for income earned as an independent contractor (where no taxes are taken out), and Other for anything else the user may want to track. Tax rates are user adjustable, and the app defaults to 30%, 40%, and 0% for the three types of income previously mentioned.

From the Employers view, independent contractors and/or employees can enter and store contact info and notes about those for whom they work. Users can easily track how much they have earned from each employer as well as the individual income events associated with that employer.

Users can go to the Budget view to input their recurring expenses. For each budget item entered, myIncome will display how much that works out to per day, week, month, quarter, and year. In addition, each budget item can be entered with a variety of frequencies. The bottom of the Budget inspector view displays the user’s overall budget broken down by day, week, month, quarter, and year.

Finally, the Overview section uses the monthly total from the Budget section as well as a monthly Adjustment (for things like buying a new computer or going on vacation, or even spending less than normal) to show the user how far over or under budget they are for the month. The first column is the raw total (gross pay) earned in a given month. The second column uses the tax rates for each income type to derive an estimated net total for the month. The next column is the monthly total for the user’s budget. The fourth column is for adjustments, and the last is the over/under column, where positive numbers in black show the amount under budget, and negative numbers in red indicate the amount over.

“I created myIncome to help me keep track of how much I was earning, what my expenses were, and who owed me money,” commented independent developer Michael S. Swan. “If you work for more than one employer or the number of hours you work each day varies, then this app will keep track of all your earnings and expenses in a simple, straightforward way.”

System Requirements:
* Mac OS X Lion (OS X 10.7 or later)
* 3.0 MB

Pricing and Availability:
myIncome 1.0 is only $39.99 (USD) and available worldwide exclusively through the Mac App Store in the Finance category. Review copies are available upon request.
