Road Testing 2 Speed Tracking Apps

This app review was so much fun I had to push it to the front of the review rotation. I road tested 2 Speedometer apps, Speed and Speedbox, while driving down the highway. Not a good idea but it was a good test and a good way to test these apps. I guess I could have done that from the passenger seat but hey, who has time for that? I have to multitask.

Thanks Jerad for risking your life, and others, on the road for this test! ;) I was looking at both of these and wondering if they even worked at all. Now I know. Due note, both authors stress you must use 3G for high accuracy. 2.5 G isn’t going to do it, as you found out.

Now let’s get one with an analog speedo on the display, too. :)

i would think gps signal strength is much more important than signal type or strength, as an offline app can calculate speed based on offsets from a GPS. i'd be interested to hear why they are claiming signal strength has anything to do with it, actually
