Budapest, Hungary – The UrbanCyclr team is determined to make bicycling in urban areas more popular and less intimidating by sharing real-life information amongst bicyclers about how people move around in the cities. UrbanCyclr is now available worldwide as a free download from the App Store and Google Play. The app lets users track their bicycle rides and share them anonymously with others on a common map. This map is a great resource to find new ways to move around and to discover popular bicycle routes.

The concept has been tested in Budapest as an earlier version of the app was launched in the spring of 2011, limited to the capital of Hungary as a pilot project. The enthusiastic reaction from the bicycling community made it obvious that there is a need for such an app on a global scale as well. The aggregated Budapest bicyclers map is not only a gorgeous example of data visualisation, it provides useful information for both the end-users and to city planning officials as well.

Budapest has proven itself – now it’s time for the rest of the world to grab their bikes, track and share. Making the world a better place. One track at a time.
